The Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community brings “Capote” to The Theatre on Gay Street, Washington,Virginia, Friday, May 19, at 8 p.m.
Truman Capote claimed that with the publication of his book, “In Cold Blood”, a new form of writing was bom; journalism made into story, a nonfiction novel. This book was an important event for Capote, something on a large scale that would have the “credibility of fact, the immediacy of film, the depth and freedom of prose, and the precision of poetry.” While his claim of invention is disputed, and lines between truth and untruth blur his journalism, few recent writers have the reputation of the fascinating, talented, changeling that marked Truman Capote. For a time he was the most famous and well-paid writer in America.
