Rumors have been circulating in the county for months about the fate of Sunnyside Farms in Sperryville. Those rumors can now be put aside as it has now been confirmed.
The land that was the heart of Sunnyside Farms has been put up for sale by owner and former AOL entrepreneur David Cole. The ambitious certified-organic farm operation has been listed with local realtor Alan Zuschlag of Armfield, Miller & Ripley ,Fine Properties, LLC.
“At the moment the Sunnyside Farm is the only part of Sunnyside operations listed for sale,” Zuschlag stated.
Tl>e farm contains nearly 422 acres'and is currently listed for $7.5 million.
Zuschlag added that the Sunnyside Market, a retail arm of Cole’s operation located in Washington, while not currently listed for sale, will be a coming attraction on the real estate market but it is not currently for sale as part ol the land deal.
Contrary to an article about the property sale that appeared in Wednesday’s Washington Post, Cole’s Sperryville rest stop and restaurant known as “Sunnyside@The Schoolhouse” is not slated for closure. Cole leased the Schoolhouse property from owner Cliff Miller, and used it as a location for Sunnyside’s business. With the sale of the farm, the Schoolhouse location is expected to go on operating, possibly backed by a different entrepreaur.
“The intent is to not to close the ‘Schoolhouse’ but to maintain the operation,” said Sunnyside General Manager Philip Morgan. “The ‘Schoolhouse’ is doing better now than any point in its history. I see it as a viable seven day operation.”
