Raye Tupper, one of the key officials in the hierarchy of the Rappahannock County Public School system, has resigned to take a job in Fauquier county.
Tupper, officially the executive director of human resources and instruction, will become the Fauquier school systems coordinator of gifted services and fine arts.
Tupper called the change, “ a different opportunity, not an advancement.”
For Tupper, the move brings to a close 17 years of service in Rappahannock schools, 16 of them consecutive, during which she has been a teacher, assistant principal, and principal.
School Board Chairman Wes Mills, said of the resignation, “My goodness, she has served our county so diligently, so long...it’s been a tearful goodbye...this is a great loss for us.”
Mills reported that Tupper will be succeeded by elementary school principal Dave Covington .
Tupper’s husband Mike is the assistant principal of Rappahannock County High School.
