Rappahannock County’s largest landholder is taking stock of its local assets to better manage the environment and farming operations on its property.
Illinois-based Lane Industries Inc., which owns 7,600-acre Eldon Farms, hired environmental consulting firm Cahill Associates, of West Chester, Pa., last summer to study and make recommendations for the future use of its land.
The study raised concerns with some county residents who thought it indicated plans to develop or sell the property. But Lane Industries’ vice president, Bill Keating, said studies like the one Cahill was hired to perform are run periodically for Eldon. Farms.
