When you ask Bob initially why he’s retiring he laughs and tells you he’s getting old. Given his retirement plans for bee keeping, building one house and renovating another, no one is going to believe that line! Congratulations and happy retirement, Bob! You’ll be missed!
Winery expansion
Earlier this year you may have noticed the new building at Gray Ghost Vineyards on US 211. It’s a beautiful building from the road and seems to blend in perfectly in its vineyard setting. Once you go inside, though, you realize it’s an even better fit.
I had the chance to sit down this week with A1 and Cheryl Kellert. They are wonderful hosts and their enthusiasm about their new building is contagious. About two years ago they realized that their current tasting room was too small. On busy weekends customers were lined up out the door. And some people were taking one look at that line and leaving. The Kellerts knew it was time to do something!
They had deliberately waited to build the tasting room they really wanted. It was important to them to get everything else right first. So they concentrated on making great wines. And the crowds and the numerous awards testify to their success there. So A1 turned his attention to designing the new tasting room.
