After the meeting, superintendent Dr. Robert Chappell said he is aware of the frustration related to the football program, but he wants to remind people that the program is only three years old. He also said Principal Roger Mello and Athletic Director J.D. Almond have arranged four independently scheduled games for next season - up from two this year.
But Chappell seemed hesitant to take the football team out of district play.
“It’s a tough message, a tough decision to pull out of the district,” he said.
Governor’s school
The school board also tackled budget and curricular issues Tuesday.
Mountain Vista Governor’s School is considering opening spots for students in grades nine and 10. Chappell said he has reservations about allowing ninth- and lOth-graders to take classes at Lord Fairfax Community College in Warrenton.
