Kathryn Reinboldt said she likes Rappahannock’s slowgrowth policies and wants them to stay the way they are. But she also said that surrounding counties do not have similar policies and therefore have larger and faster-growing populations.
Butler compared keeping the football program in the Bull Rim District to having a Division HI college team play a Division I squad. He also pointed out that the team’s lone victory during the last two years came against Chincoteague, a non-district opponent.
“If we s|ay in this district, what do we gain?” Butler asked. “As adults, we need to look out for the kids.”
Amy Hitt, a Rappahannock County School Sports Association board member, said the county needs to start a football program for children in the fifth and sixth grades. Eighth grade is too late to start developing a competitive program, she said.
