John Fox Sullivan, the publisher of the Atlantic Monthly and the National Journal, was appointed to the Washington Town Council’s open seat on Monday.
Council member Claudia Mitchell nominated Sullivan, who previously served on the town’s Architectural Review Board, and the rest of the council members present unanimously approved the motion.
Sullivan was immediately sworn into office by Clerk of the Circuit Court Diane Bruce. Mayor Eugene Leggett then showed Sullivan to former Vice Mayor Reinhardt Lynch’s seat at the council’s table.
The vacancy on the council arose in January, when Lynch moved out of town.
