The concert at the Theatre at Washington, Virginia on Saturday, March 10, features two superb guitarists, Jay Geils and Gerry Beaudoin, and the youthful violin- , 1st, Aaron Weinstein. Randall Kremer, of the Smithsonian Jazz Cafe, warmly appreciates the drill of . these three musicians who recorded Hie Kings of StringB in 2006 on the Arbors Records label Kroner writes, "For Jay Geils and Gerry Beaudoin, melody is king and the groove is swing! Add young violin phe- 1 nomenon Aaron Weinstein and a crack rhythm section - to the mix and you have one of the most exciting and 1 crowd pleasing groups in the whole of jazz. Jay and - Gerry's 'swing' through the Mid-Atlantic states will include a return to the Smithsonian Jazz Cafe where ■? they made a triumphant debut three years ago on tail , winds of a hurricane!"
Flying under the banner of The Statesmen of Jazz, the group will make their first appearance together at the Theatre at Washington, Virginia. Both Beaudoin - and Weinstein have performed with other groups at the Theatre in the past
Jay Geils’ 25-year career in rock and roll with the J. Geils Band resulted in over 10 million records sold, a Grammy nomination, five gold records, one double plat- v inum record and a number of television and movie . appearances. But Geils never forgot his childhood love of jazz and has teamed up in recent years with the fine - veteran jazz guitarist Gerry Beaudoin, himself also a t Grammy nominee. For the concert at the Theatre on • March 10, James King will be on bass and Chuck Redd an drums. King participated just last month in a concert in Washington, D.C. honoring the memory of Keter Betts.
