County bridges?
Are Rappahannock County’s bridges in good shape? Of the 87 bridges, 48 are either OK or a potential exists for minor or major maintenance; 38 have a potential for minor or major rehabilitation; and one is in poor condition, that being the bridge on Route 605 across the Hughes River. This structure was inspected in October 2006 and is to be worked on this spring or summer. It is currently posted with a weight limit of 3 tons.

The old Covington River Bridge at Rediviva is not among the 87 bridges listed for Rappahannock County. It was taken out of VDOT”s maintenance system in 1992. It’s in bad shape, but more about that later.
Since people drive over the county’s bridges on a regular basis, it might be of interest to know how VDOT judges thencondition, e.g., their deficiencies. Primarily, each bridge gets a number called the General Condition Rating. The number ranges from zero to 9, the higher the number, the better shape the bridge is in:
