March 17: Kid’s Fishing Day
The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries will be holding Kid’s Fishing Day in Madison County, Virginia. It will be held Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the Robinson River by the intersection of Route 600 and Route 643 near Syria, Va. Children ages 12 and under will be permitted to fish without a license. Children over 16 and adults are allowed to assist children but must have a license if they plan to fish. The event is free and is also sponsored by Graves Mountain Lodge and Trout Unlimited.

Chili fund raiser
Do you make a mean bowl of chili? Can it compete against Howie’s “Chili Bowl of Tears” or Kitty Lou’s Pepperoni Pizza Chili?” These are just a few of the entries over the last four years and this year you could have what it takes to make the overall bestest chili. On Saturday, March 17, from 3-7 p.m. at Bill Payne Auction Gallery, on Rt. 211, Amissville. Donate your best chili or sample and cast your vote for your favorite pot of chili, $6 per person, kids under six free and all you can eat. There will be hot dogs, drinks on sale, crackers, combread and turns will be furnished.
