A silent auction will be held on Thursday, March. 1, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. The auction is a huge fund raiser to help the paper print its first issue. The United Daughters of the Confederacy, Culpeper Chapter #73, cordially invite all Rappahannock County students, grades 1-12, to participate in an annual essay contest We encourage any public, private or home schooled student to apply his or her knowledge of history. Cash prizes win be awarded and winners will be honored at a special ceremony. Essay instructions and rules may be obtained at the Rappahannock County Library, the Rappahannock County Elementary School, or Rappahannock County High School. Al entries are (foe by March 1, 2007. March 2: “The Departed”

The Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community brings "The Departed to the Theatre on Gay Street in Washington on Friday March 2, at 8 p.m. Martin Scorsese took home both > the Golden Globe and the Academy Award for Best Achievement in Directing for this film. It also won an Academy Award for Best Motion Picture of the Year, Best Achievement in Editing and Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay. Mark Wahtoerg was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role.
