Two-for-one deal
The Scrabble School project will preserve and educate people about the historic building as well as provide much-needed social space for Rappahannock’s senior citizens.
The county’s current senior center is housed in rented space on Mount Salem Avenue in the Ibwn of Washington and can only accommodate up to 30 people. A new center at Scrabble School will be able to serve as many as 55 seniors. Rappahannock Senior Site Supervisor Darcy Canton said she thinks more people would get involved with activities at the center if more space were available.
The foundation is seeking skilled and unskilled volunteers to help with the building renovation and $12,500 in donations are needed to receive the full amount of the matching-funds grant recently awarded by the General Assembly.
