Ellen Arvilla Sanders Laing, 89, passed away at her home in Broad Run, VA on February 25, 2007. She was the daughter of Leslie Richard and Kathleen Sanders.

Mrs. Laing was bom in New Baltimore, VA.

She was a lifelong resident of Rappahannock, Culpeper and Fauquier Counties.

Mrs. Laing graduated from Warrenton High School and subsequently attended Mary Washington College. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, William A. Laing, Jr.

She was a long-term member of St. James Episcopal Church in Warrenton and most recently a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church of Culpeper. She spent many years as a volunteer for her church, the Fauquier Hospital and the Warrenton and Culpeper community thrift shops.

Professionally, Mrs. Laing was an underwriter for Lawyers’ Title Insurance Company, Manassas, VA.

She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by four children, Kathleen Oneal, William Laing III, George Laing and R. Tyler Laing; two sisters, Angie Rogers and Marian Eaton; 13 grandchildren; 20 greatgrandchildren; and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Graveside services only will be held at Warrenton Cemetery, Thursday, March 1, 2007 at 1 p.m. Following the service, the family invites friends and relatives to her home in Broad Run in celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, Ellen requested that donations be made to Hospice of the Rapidan (P.O. Box 1715, 1200 Sunset Lane #2320, Culpeper, VA 22701).
