This year, the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) once again partnered with the American Library Association in its fourth “We the People” Bookshelf program, and Wakefield Country Day School’s library was one of the 2007 grant recipients.
This program, made possible with the generous support of the McCormick Tribune Foundation, annually awards two thousand libraries across the nation with a set of 15 classic books related to different themes.
The goal of the program is to introduce young readers to quality literature and promote a better understanding of ideas through the power of particular stories.
The first three program themes were “Courage,” “Freedom,” and “Becoming American,” and the topic for 2007 is “Pursuit of Happiness.” This year’s selec
