The Brandy Station Fogndation win sponsor this free lecture for anyone interested in the history of the U.S. Civil War. The program wiH start at 2:00 p.m. While free, donations are welcomed and wil be used for operation of the Graffiti House. Mr. John Tole wiH present “The Devils to Pa/. This interesting tak highlights the career of Union cavalry General John Buford, a man of competence, honesty, and humility. The lecture will be held ai the Graffiti House, 19484 Brandy Road, in Brandy Station, VA. For cfirections go to wwwibrandystationfoitfxtation.com.John Buford graduated from West Point in 1849. He spent 13 years in the U.S. Dragoons on the western frontier before his ability to do effective staff work put Nm in a series of desk jobs. At the start of the Civil War, General John Rope selected Buford to lead cavalry forces and Buford spent more than a year in the thick of many fights, including al four cavalry battles at Brandy Station and on the first day at Gettysburg. Buford ted the 1st Cavalry Division and the Reserve Brigade across Beverly Ford at the Battle of Brandy Station on June 9,1863. Buford Knol on the battlefield is named for him. Saciy five months after tie Battle of Gettysburg he died of typhoid fever in Washington, D.C., depriving tie Union of perhaps its finest cavalry officer.
