year as vice president of the student government, Luke managed to handle a course toad that included four AP classes, maintain a first honors average (9.0 and above), and play two varsity sports. Asa junior, Ben was co-captain of the basketball team, earning the “Most Improved Player" award for that sport two years running, as well as being named “Most ImprovecT in varsity soccer. Luke served as editor of the school newspaper, The Hoot and for the past four years he was one of the most active members of the WCDS Key Club, an organization dedicated to helping others. When asked to describe Ben, in addition to noting his academic abilities, the words often used are “leadership skills and “sharp wrtted.” As a junior, he earned both the WCDS writing and history awards, the All-Around Boy Award, and the William E. Lynn, Jr. Award, given to the student who best exemplifies the Wakefield Country Day School philosophy. Ben has been a frequent volunteer at WCDS, and throughout the county, assisting in the Fodderstack Race this year as well as Flint Hill Fire and Rescue events. Ben is committed to improving the environment; this year he participated in a stream conservation clinic pertaining to \ Thornton River, and he helped build his AP Environmental Science class’s nesting boxes to improve the local duck habitat Ben’s senior thesis dealt with rapid population growth and the environmental problems it causes, posing possible solutions. Last fall Ben volunteered as a campaign worker for a candidate in the Piedmont District election and celebrated that candidate’s victory in November. Ben was accepted to the University of Virginia (UVA) as one of their “Early Decision” applicants.

Kevis’cheerful demeanor lights up any room, and her generous nature and willing spirit earned her the Outstanding Service Award at Wakefield Country Day School in 2006.
