Age: 18 Hometown: Washington School: Rappahannock County High School Parent: Tina Oehser After High School: Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania Why Anna? Ranked fourth in her class, Anna is passionate about the environment. Working two jobs, she spends her free time in nature hiking, rock climbing and kayaking. She’s no stranger to testing soil and water for quality control studies and working in local nurseries and gardens. Anna’s interest in the environment got her involved in the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection and RappFLOW. “I was very delighted that she came to several RappFLOW meetings,” said coordinator Bev Hunter. “She was great because she would ask a lot of questions and that would help the discussion probe deeper into watershed protection issues. She was a good contributor. We do get students from the high school but Anna was by far the most curious and really contributed to the dialogue.” Anna took home top subject awards this year in AP English 12 and Environmental Science. She is a Rappahannock Scholar and at the Scholarship Ceremonies held in May walked up to the podium several times taking home the Culpeper Soil and Water Scholarship, the Elizabeth Biggs Memorial Scholarship, and the Francis J. Leonard Garden Club Scholarship. She was also a joint recipient of the Graham Hackley Memorial Scholarship, the Next Step Dream Awards, and the RPM Memorial Scholarship. “She’s always been interested in being a stellar student,” said her mother Tina. “I think that she’s benefited from a number of school experiences.
