Verizon responsible if there’s an emergency and there’s no phone service?”
While Sharp Rock’s phone service was out for two consecutive weekends, East called Verizon and was told a technician was on his way to address the problem. But a technician never showed up.
“I think we’ve reached our limit,” East said. “We’re all very angry, not only as businesses but as Verizon customers. They don’t seem to care.”
Slate Mills residents say they have been told the problem stems from outdated phone lines that, at this time, Verizon is not willing to replace.
In an e-mail to CartwrightBrown, Paulette Edmonds of the State Corporation Commission said Verizon indicated the company has no plans to upgrade their lines. The company did agree to offer a two-week out-ofservice credit of $46.33 to residents affected by the eight-day outage, Edmonds said.
But that is hardly enough to appease the residents who have b«2n living with the inconvenience of unreliable phone service.
Several calls to Verizon service representatives were not returned for this story.
