UPPERVILLE — Years of practice. Miles of travel. Hours of schooling. Tense minutes ringside, watching as his competitors, Olympic veterans all, jumped smooth and clear.
And it all came down to barely 30 seconds on the clock.
Rider Kent Farrington made his time count, dashing around the twisting jump-off course clear, leaving all the rails up and shaving nearly two seconds off the next-best score to win the $100,000 Budweiser jumper classic Sunday at the Upperville show.
Riding 10-year-old Belgian Warmblood Up Chiqui, Farrington counts this his eighthstraight grand prix victory.
“He just started doing the big grand prix this year,” said the Connecticut-based rider of the chrome-faced chestnut. “He handled it pretty well, so I just kept putting him in. He continues to rise to the occasion.”
