Six months from now state regulations will take effect requiring local governments and private business firms to place trash containers at designated locations.
The Virginia Division of Litter Control says copies of the new litter receptacle regulations have already been distributed “to all county, city and town governments, business and trade associations and others across the state...”
Division deputy commissioner John Jackson said the regulations were mandated in the Virginia Litter Control Act adopted by the General Assembly. Before their adoption, there were no statewide requirements, standards nor procedures for providing the public with litter receptacles.
