The Board of Directors for Northern Piedmont Electric Cooperative (NPEC), headquartered at Culpeper, has recommended that the Cooperative consolidate with Virginia Electric Cooperative, based at Bowling Green.
A study began in 1973, reviewed and concluded in 1978, demonstrates that uniting the two organizations will result in substantial savings and improved service benefits to customers, according to a NPEC release.
Action by both Boards must be approved by a majority vote of the membership at annual meetings this August. Legal clearance must also be obtained from the State Corporation Commission, Rural Electrification Administration and National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corporation.
