China’s own national interests. In fact, Chiang’s government lost most of it’s troops in a July, 1937 clash with the Japanese in North China. From 1938 on, the Chiang government’s efforts against the Japanese didn’t amount to much, on the assumption that the U.S. forces would ultimately take care of China’s Japanese problem. The writer makes no mention of the Communist’s role in routing the Japanese.
