Free Assistance in preparing Federal an<L£tate income tax returns is” now available to area taxpayers at Lord Fairfax Community College in Middletown.
Through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA), sponsored in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service, elderly individuals and others with relatively simple tax status can obtain help with basic forms.
VITA assistance will be offered at Lord Fairfax on January 27, February 3, March 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Volunteer assistors are Tax and Accounting students who can assist taxpayers in completion of Forms 1040A and simple 1040’s, according to Professor Gary Tusing, VITA coordinator.
Professor Tusing also noted that taxpayers needing VITA help should bring along their tax packages mailed to them by the IRS as well as W-2 forms, interest statements, a copy of their 1977 return if available, and all other pertinent tax documents.
