At its May 8 meeting, the Rappahannock School Board voted “with deep regret” to approve a request from elementary teacher Corina Fountain to be released from her contract for the 1979-80 school year. The resignation of Mrs. Fountain, who has been teaching here for 14 years, brings the number of teachers leaving to 22 and gives the county a turn-over rate of 35 per cent to date.
The School Board also voted unanimously to hire Robert Leavell as a high school math teacher and Donna Lowe as elementary Title I math teacher. Their employment leaves 22 positions yet to be filled at the elementary and high schools.
Due to insufficient interest on the part of parents, there will be no summer school program at the elementary school this year. Assistant superintendent Rob McDaniel reported that 26 Title I parents and 46 parents of students in standard classes indicated interest in summer classes while over 400 parents returned survey forms indicating they wouldn’t send their children.
