Lee, Tom Lee and Steve Norman were partially handicapped with a faulty “mike”, they received some award money.
The Bridgewater Band was composed of hand-picked group from the larger concert band of the school. Their dash and vigor colored a truly great performance rivaling the professional ability of big name bands. Patrons indicated it to be a Kennedy Center quality production. The director, T. R. Thornley, was once associated with Tommy Dorsey.
The instrumentalists were assisted by Debbie Williams with a strong coloratura voice and Mark Robertson, an able baritone. The volumne was not only terrific, it was volcanic and the audience grinned, rolled their eyes upward in ecstasy and fixed their stare on the ceiling, hoping that plaster and lath would remain wedded. As the final notes of “Over The Rainbow” faded into silence the audience in one upsurge gave a standing tribute of appreciation to such a show of profiency and delightful music.
As all Ruritan projects, this show was organized as a community interest to develop youthful talent with public entertainment. Judges serving were Mrs. Bonnie Curtis, Mrs. Frank Donald and Carson Johnson.
