Out here in the country everything is farther apart. To do most of our shopping we must drive 10 to 25 miles just to get to a major food store. During this gas crunch, it is important to combine shopping trips. Keep a list of the items you need then compile it before heading off to town. If you need only several items, remember we have our own communitystores which are well stocked and can meet your needs in many instances.
The State Division of Energy recommends these driving tips: —Drive 55 miles per hour on the highway. It saves 15 to 30 per cent of your gas.
— Seriously consider carpooling. Leave your car home one day a week. —Drive at a steady speed. —Tune your car regularly. —Lighten your load. Unnecessary weight makes the engine work harder and burns more gasoline.
For those who couldn’t make it to Mrs. Williamson’s lovely herb fair, I would like to pass along her recipe for French Dressing which uses her mixed Herb Vinegar. Mrs. Williamson’s Oak Forest garden is located near Woodville off Rt. 522, one mile west of Rt. 621. She offers a variety of herbs and herb products.
