One ot the current activities of the Piedmont Environmental Council is the Main Street Trees Project, which offers assistance to local merchants, civic organizations, clubs, governments and individual citizens in organizing tree planting programs. The Piedmont Environmental Council, a non-profit group based in the town of Warrenton, serves a nine county area of Virginia’s Piedmont region, from Albemarle to Loudoun. PEC promotes good land use planning and encourages the conservation of natural and man-made resources, while providing for necessary growth and chahge.
Last year, PEC initiated the Main Street Design Service, a project to improve the visual character of Piedmont downtown areas through advice, resources and design assistance. These aims have been continued in the Main Street Trees Project, which places strong emphasis on local involvement and participation.
