Pressing a pair of shears into her hand, he instructed her to cut the clothes off the injured children. Elizabeth Browning was the first to receive Mrs. Winfrey’s assistance.
Cutting along her right coat sleeve to the shoulder, “I found a bone sticking out. So I switched to the left arm; there was another bone sticking out,” remembers Mrs. Winfrey. The more she cut away clothes, the more serious were the injuries uncovered. Elizabeth’s right arm was so badly crushed, only temporary measures were taken. Her left arm was set immediately by Dr. Kelly.
