He said he’s talked to Rev. Savage several times, the last occasion just two days prior to Thursday’s BZA meeting. According to McNear, Savage’s congregation intends to build more than just the three structures listed on the building permit but realizes that additional permits will be required before construction can begin.
“I don’t have any doubt in my mind that they have really big plans but they have no authority to build anything except a church,” said McNear. “The minute they decide to do anything else, they’ll come in for a special use permit.”
At the request of the BZA, McNear agreed to visit the building site. In response to an inquiry from BZA member George Muth, the zoning administrator also agreed to check on the status of a trailer located on Route 522. The trailer was previously approved in a hardship case, and, according to Muth, the hardship no longer exists.
