From the first stimulating throb of a trio of Rappahannock High School guitarists to the closing plaintive melody, “Over The Rainbow”, by the Bridgewater College Stage Band, it was a delightful evening of twentiety centuryt “go” music.
In a two part show Saturday night, sponsored by the Amissville Ruritan Club, these local amateurs and the more sophistocated Bridgewater Band quickly stimulated a continuous applause that climaxed in a final standing show of appreciation by the audience.
Chosen from top high school ability the local amateurs were introduced by Ruritan B. Settle. As the curtain closed on the talent show, judges moved in to award first place and twentyfive dollars to Jennette Beebe of Castleton whose charm and skill with guitar and voice had already received warm audience approval.
Second place soloist, Sharon Settle of Amissville, graciously divided another twenty-five dollars with her accompanist, Dee Dee Grant of Washington. Close contestants for third place were two pianists, Becky Stirman of Amissville and Judith Bloomer, Sperryville, with Becky taking the spot and Judith finishing fourth. Each received a cash award.
