would call it a successful season,” pronounced coach Glen Davis after his Panthers finished their second varsity soccer season with a 3-7 record. “We are still building and we went 32 the second half of this season,” he noted. “We didn’t really have a best game. It came in spurts,” Davis said, predicting that those spurts will be extended in 1984.
The final week started on a sour note with a 3-0 loss to Seton of Manassas. “Mentally, w’e were not ready for that game,” Davis said. The Panthers played poorly, unable to generate any offense. While the Rappahannock players walked up and down the field, Seton’s speedy fullbacks stopped drive after drive at the goalee’s box.
But RCHS found the spark again on Wednesday in Charlottesville, the second of three away contests last week. “I was very pleased with the game. We played well,” said Davis. “It was our first away victory and we scored our first three goals away from home. We had never scored away before.”
Vinnie Caporuscio ended that drought in the first half with a well-placed shot that hit the far corner of the net.
