The Hooters, Wakefield’s girls’ field hockey team, are much improved over last year, according to new coach Hunt Harris.
Harris took over the coaching duties at the start of the season and, with help from team captains Laurel Gray and Kim Johnson, has led the team to its best start ever.
The girls opened tl^e season at home on September 28 against visiting St. James from Hagerstown, Maryland. Wakefield lost, 20. but the Hooters displayed impressive effort, the coach reported. He noted that St. James is one of the finest teams in the area, adding that the Wakefield squad displayed a lot of talent in holding their opponents to 10 for most of the game. St. James' second score came late on a penalty after goalie Leigh Bently lifted her feet too early, Harris said.
