Miss Virginia Jennings Tolson, died Saturday, October 15, 1983, at Georgetown Hospital.

Born in Jeffersonton and a descendant of James de la Fontaine who in 1722 recorded his life in “Memoirs of a Huguenot Family”, she was intensely interested in members of the Tolson, Hamilton, Spilman and related families and was in the process of compiling an extensive family history.

She was retired from an active and interesting business life.

For a number of years she was an Administrative Assistant to trade associations representing the oil industry during World War II. Thereafter she went to New York City as Special Assistant to the President of Research Corporation, a foundation supporting basic research in the hard sciences and medicine.

During that time she had the distinction of being director of the Lectureship Program of Sigma XI, a position usually held by one of its science members.

For family reasons, she returned to Washington and was Administrative Assistant to the Chief of the Accounting and Finance Office of the Federal Power Commission until her retirement. She received a number of plaques for her oustanding work.

Survivors include a brother, Hugh H. Tolson of Front Royal and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Wolford of Arlington and Mrs. Emily Vawter of Flint Hill.

Mrs. Mattie Elizabeth “Betty” Boardman of Glen Burnie, Md., died Friday, October 21, 19811, in a Glen Burnie hospital.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday at the Geest-Johnson Funeral Home in Culpeper by the Rev. John Gabbert. Burial was in the Washington Masonic Cemetery.

Mrs. Boardman, a native of Flint Hill, was the daughter of the late Aylette Clarence and Mamie Burke Fincham.

Surviving are her husband, Leo Earl Boardman; a son, Sammy Foster of Front Royal and four grandchildren.
