It appears from further records of September court, and of court in other months, that Clerk Menefee had a difficult time keeping the jurors in the court room. During the trial of George Welch, the accused horse thief, the clerk issued four summons like this one for George P. Strain: "It appearing to the court that George Strale, one of the jurors sworn on yesterday upon the trial of George Welch for horse stealing, withdrew ami separated himself from the rest of the jury during the progress of the trial without the knowledge or leave of the court, this therefore declares that the said George Strale be summoned to appear here forthwith to show cause, if any be, why he should not be fined for contempt."
