Josie Smoot Rappahannock Native Miss Josie Mae Smoot, 86, of Boston, died on Tuesday, October 18, 1983, at Western State Hospital, Staunton. A native of Rappahannock County, she was the daughter of the late John and Martha Riley Smoot. Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Frances Smoot and Mrs. Flora Smoot, both of Stephens City and Mrs. Lillie Smoot of Winchester and several nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services were conducted on Friday at the Washington Masonic Cemetery. Geest-Johnson Funeral Home in Culpeper was in charge of arrangements.
James Russell Jackson Construction Worker James Russell Jackson, 48, of Sperryville, died Tuesday, October 18, 1983, at his home. A native of Rappahannock County, his parents were the late Thomas and Ollie Jackson. He was a construction worker and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. He is survived by two brothers, Ray Jackson of Sperryville and Linwood Jackson of Philadelphia, Pa. and four sisters, Luci Jackson of Harrisburg, Pa., Mrs. Nannie Slaughter, Mrs. Mollie Slaughter and Mrs. Hattie Slaughter, all of Reva. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Woodville. Burial was in the family section of the church cemetery. W.C. Thompson Funeral Home in Culpeper was in charge of arrangements.
