For gardeners who are worried the frost will kill their plants before the folks around the table have had their fill, here’s a novel way to keep them warm on chilly nights. Fill an old inner tube with Wttter and place it around the plant. The black surface and water absorb the sun’s heat during the afternoon and continue to radiate warmth to the plant during cool nights.
The recent Gallup “Gardens For All” survey found that 44 million, or about 53 percent of American households grew some of their own produce in 1932. These gardens cut the average family food bill for the year by $500. The most popular plant, present in nearly all gardens, was the tomato.
