Evans is a veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department. Anyone who knows him, even for the short time I have known him, knows he is his own person.
His question to Konick can stand on its own merit and was totally appropriate. I cannot think of a more important question to put to the candidate for our county’s highest legal office than to ask him about his rumored misconduct in the af-. termath of a homicide by his client. This is no different than the tough Watergate and Chappaquiddick questions put to Richard Nixon and Teddy Kennedy, respectively, about their alleged criminal conduct.
The only inappropriate conduct at the forum were the two outbursts of “Inappropriate” from the audience and moderator Lee Bird’s failure to firmly insist upon the right of a citizen at a much-publicized candidates’ forum to complete his question without intimidation. No areas of questioning had been rules off limits prior to the meeting.
