ANEW YORKER attending the
Rappahannock Angus Feeder Association’s livestock auction purchased $28,486.90 worth of stock. Karl Ehmer was the largest single buyer, going back with 221 animals.
The sale average was $27.56 cwt or $125.38 per head for animals with weight averaged at 452 pounds. •
Irva Poe of Amissville pulled a 4Vi pound beet and a llA pound carrot from the garden. How the vegetation had done so well in such a dry season was a puzzle. Numerous wells in the area were reported dry and many creeks and streams were completely void of water.
Donald Huffman of Front Royal killed a 125 pound bear near Flint Hill with a bow and arrow from a distance of about 25 yards. Huffman checked the animal at Lyle Rector’s store in Flint Hill. He told Rector that after he shot the bear, a much larger one appeared nearby, but it ran away when it saw and heard the commotion of the first one.
