The Incumbent’s Protection Act of 1981, otherwise known as Virginia’s last legislative redistricting, appears to have worked well in the Northern Piedmont.
As a matter of fact, in looking over the legislative races to be addressed by Fauquier and Rappahannock voters on November 8, the only real contest appears to be in the 26th Senate District, which includes Rappahannock County and the southernmost portion of Fauquier within its sprawling borders.
The 26th District is notable for tw'o reasons.
First, it stretches from the western border of Virginia in Rockingham County to the outskirts of the City of Fredericksburg in Southern Fauquier, thereby making it one of the largest Senate districts in the Commonwealth.
Secondly, the most importantly, the district has no incumbent because of the retirement of Senator Nathan Miller (R-Rockingham).
