If an individual receiving the bill thinks it is incorrect, the IRS says the best course of action is to write to the service center in Memphis.
If you get a notice but have already paid the tax bill, the IRS suggests that you include a copy of the cancelled check, front and back. Allow 4-6 weeks for the IRS to get back to you.
Also, the IRS advises that it is important to answer a notice quickly. Four notices are mailed - the final being a certified letter - before stronger measures are taken.
But the IRS maintains that it can enforce collection after the first notice if it believes any delay will jeopardize collection of the tax due.

Lord Fairfax Community College fall schedule of classes was mailed to the college’s service area in Rappahannock County on Aug. 5.
Anyone not receiving a schedule by Aug. 12 can do so by calling the school at 869-1120.
Fall registration dates are Aug. 22 for returning students and Sept. 3-5 from 1-7 p.m. for new students.
