Supervisors hired Industrial Insurance Management Corporation of Richmond as consultants to straighten out what had become a headache to local officials. Tomorrow, Allan Thorton is to make a presentation and recommend a policy to the county. Thorton is charging the county $3,000, a figure that could go to $5,000 depending on the amount of work involved.
Thorton was not in his Richmond office early this week, but an assistant said Thorton told her he is prepared to offer a solution to solve the confusion, which included double coverage in some areas of the policies.
Supervisors were told at their Aug. 5 meeting that the double coverage cost the county roughly $1,500 a month.
Should the county cancel its policy with Alexander and Alexander, it is expected that much of its premium payment will be refunded.
Supervisor Nelson Lane said at last week’s meeting that he “would love to go with the local man” if Clement was able to write a policy.
The meeting tomorrow is scheduled to be held in the courthouse.
