All other select yearling sales in the country have experienced a drop in their averages from last year. At Keeneland, Ky., where a Nijinsky II yearling sold for a record $13.1 million in July, this year’s overall average was down 10.7 percent from last year.

One segment of the sale here was down from last year, however. This was the Thursday night sale, traditionally known as ‘Virginia Night’ because of its usual domination by Virginiabred and consigned horses.
