Dorothy Armstrong
Mrs. Dorothy Simmons Armstrong, 75, of Amissville, died at her residence on August 7.
Mrs. Simmons was a retired teacher in the Culpeper County School system. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and a former director of the WMU Shiloh Association.
Survivors include her husband, Edward Brent Armstrong, Jr., of Amissville; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Ellen Hunter of Manassas; one son, Robert E. Armstrong, Nokesville; three grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ernest Denton, Pittmon, N. J., and two brothers, Sanford Simmons, White Plains, N. J., and John Simmons, Florida.
Her funeral service was conducted August 10 at the Jeffersonton Baptist Church by Rev. Marshall Braylo and Rev. Floyd Binns. Burial was in the church cemetery’. Clore Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

James S. Jenkins
James Samuel “Sam” Jenkins, 82, of Route 4, Winchester, died on August 8 in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Jenkins was bom in Rappahannock County, son of James S. and Ida Nickols Jenkins. He was a retired orchardist.
Surviving are his wife, Grace Dutterer Jenkins; a daughter, Ruth E. Collins of Winchester, and two grandchildren.
A graveside service was conducted on August 10 at Greenhill CemSPTA

on playground
The Rappahannock County Elementary School Student Parent Teacher Association will be working on the school playground Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. and invites volunteers.
The playground committee is encouraged about its accomplishments during five workdays this spring.
With the help of about 12 working parent/volunteers, the committee has painted equipment, hung new swings, spread ground cover around areas that tend to stay muddy, refinished the slide, planted two trees and scraped the dome in preparation for re-painting.
There is still plenty of work to be done, reports the committee. It is seeking volunteers.
There are trees to plant, more equipment to paint, a hopscotch court to paint and items in need of building or assembling; a playground equipment storage box, seesaws and a new multipurpose piece of play equipment.
