Trout fishing
halted in stream
Lands Run, a small stream located on the west side of the North District of the Shenandoah National Park, was closed to fishing Aug. 10.
The stream was closed to “protect the few remaining native brook trout in the stream,” according to Park Superintendent Robert R. Jacobsen.
The trout population has shown a serious decline in Lands Run in the last three years. The decline is blamed on poor spawning conditions coupled with increased fishing pressure.
Park streams are one of the last strongholds of native brook trout in Virginia and are not stocked.
It is expected that Lands Run will be closed for about two years.

The Central Telephone Company of Virginia is warning its customers that other companies are selling classified listings in their upcoming directory.
Apparently, the solicitations look much like telephone billing notices and, although they are marked as solicitations, are causing confusion among customers.
Centel announces that its authorized company to solicit ads or other listings in the yellow pages sections of all Centel directories is the Reuben H. Donnelley Co.
