One year ago, on Aug. 9, 1984, Mr. William Henry Jett passed from this earthly realm into the great beyond.
He died probably as he lived, alone, except for the very near and dear presence of the Lord, whom he was always ready to praise.
For the seven years he was a resident of the Orange County Nursing Home, visitors were none too frequent. As he would comment when I would find the chance myself to go see him, “They didn’t come to see me very much.”
He never forgot his Rappahannock or the people he knew and loved. Always, he’d ask about some of the folk up in Gid Brown Hollow, or was soand-so still living. I marveled as his caring, since most humans tend to have their minds on their own particular problems.
Yet, never failing, even in his condition (having had one leg removed as a result of diabetes), confined to a wheelchair, but surprising any visitor by getting down on the floor and crawling to and from the bathroom, did he cause attention to be brought upon himself.
I’ll never forget his enthusiasm and zeal in praising God, especially at church services. A song would bring so much gladness that he’d clap his hands and maybe say Hallelujah a time or two.
The old favorite, “Come and Dine” did something extra special for him. God blessed him with a long life and many acquaintances, as well as that awesome presence he encountered.

hosts circus
Circus USA will play two shows in Amissville today at the fire department carnival grounds on U.S. 211.
Show times are set for 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
The circus will include the traditional acts: clowns, acrobats and jugglers, bears, monkeys, dogs, horses and, yes, elephants.
In fact, the elephant will help to pull his own weight, as it were.
