Establishing A PLAN
To the editor:
A question that worries most families who take care of a physically or mentally handicapped person is what will happen to their loved one when they are gone.
The handicapped — especially the mentally ill or mentally retarded - are incapable of the completing the paperwork required to secure benefits they are entitled to under Social Security or privately arranged trusts or making arrangements for their housing, medical care, etc.
The result is that these unfortunate human beings without anyone to take care of them often become “street people.”
A non-profit organization in Charlottesville called PLAN (Planned Lifetime Assistance Network) has been created with the purpose of arranging for services for the handicapped that their families used to provide.
PLAN is in the process of organizing Regional Councils in Virginia and a meeting is planned in this general area for October.
As parents of a handicapped son we are most anxious to see that PLAN’S efforts are successful not only for the sake of Wr son’s future but for all those who cannot take care of themselves.

The Blue Van
To the editor:
After reading and re-reading Mr. Mitchell’s well-written reply to my missing van question, I felt he has not made any reasonable reply for removing the blue van from this group of people.
It was done the very day Betty Jo ended her work with Community Services and was given to a driver in Fauquier on strictly a seniority basis!
This site hadn’t closed. It is a long, grueling day for these elderly handicapped people. That van traveled 150200 miles each day here in the county.
I fail to see how that blue van is
