Craftsmen,
artists invited
Craftsmen and artists are invited to submit their work for consideration in the Christmas Consignment Show and Sale at Oatlands Plantation near Leesburg.
The sale will run in conjunction with Christmas at Oatlands, an annual event set for Nov. 9 through Dec. 15.
The celebration includes candlelight tours of Oatlands, a Greek Revival mansion built by George Carter about 1804. It is now the property of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
The show and sale will be held in the carriage house.
Interested crafts and arts people are asked to submit an application, including a $5 application fee. Applications can be obtained by calling 7773174 in Leesburg, or by writing to Christmas at Oatlands, Oatlands, Inc., Rt. 2, Box 352, Leesburg 22075.
Applications must be accompanied by slides or a photo of the work or, preferably , an appointment can be made to have the work personally reviewed at Oatlands. In addition to the $5 application fee, a commission is charged on all work sold. The deadline for receipt of application is Sept. 18.

Fifty years ago yesterday, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed into law the Social Security Act.
The theme for the 50th anniversary is “Social Security - Partnership with Tomorrow.”
