There was confusion as to whether a teacher with twenty-five years of experience would receive $750 or $1000; the Board agreed that it would amend the minutes at next week’s work session to reflect its intention.
School Superintendant Robert Estabrook, saying that “I do believe in miracles,” announced that the state has reduced the county’s composite index rating from .6583 to .6149. “We are in a position to receive more of the basic aid monies because of that,” said Mr. Estabrook.
The Superintendent announced that the General Assembly is allocating $53,301 to this school district which is recorded in the budget as “transitional funds.” “The intent of the General Assembly is for teachers to receive at least a ten percent increase in monies,” said Mr. Estabrook. Although this sum will come to the school division without “strings attached,” next year’s allocated amount of $51,000 is conditional upon these increases. Board members were concerned that the conditions could have the effect of creating additional problems in the future.
