First team
all district
Tommy Jenkins, a 6-5 center/forward senior at RCHS, was named first team all district in the Bull Run District. Joining Jenkins on the first team were David Pemault (Stonewall Jackson), Bemie Walker (Clarke County), Nick Proctor (Strasburg), and Eugene Baltimore (Manassas Park).
Jenkins was also named the Northern Virginia Daily’s Athlete of the Week for February 23 — March 1. In three Bull Run District Tournament games Jenkins scored 70 points. He had 13 points and pulled down nine rebounds in a 66-64 victory over Brentsville.
In the semifinals against Clarke County, Jenkins poured in 26 points to help the Panthers to a 59-58 double overtime wins. And against Manassas Park in the finals, Jenkins capped off the week with 31 points and 11 rebounds in a 71-62 loss.
He was also named to Northern Virginia Daily’s High School first team. Joining Jenkins on the first team are two Handley seniors, Michael Hardware and Mario Pritchett, Warrep County junior Darrell Whitemore and Stonewall Jackson senior David Pemault.
The second-best scorer in the area with a 16.8 average, Jenkins came on strong for the Panthers in the Bull Run District Tournament to lead them a a second place finish before falling in their regional opener.
Jenkins hit 75 of 114 shots from the free throw line for a .658 average (19th best).
Tommy is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Jenkins of Sperry ville.
